The Big Three Dominate

I've been talking a lot about up and comers (most notably Milos Raonic) and how they are helping to shape one of the most exciting times in men's tennis history. There's a lot of young blood with enormous potential and that's obviously always a great thing for a professional sport. But the fact of the matter is that when matches count and tournaments are on the line, the ATP is a three man show.

Mr. Djokovic, Mr. Nadal and Mr. Federer still call the shots and no tournament has proven this more than the Sony Ericsson Open that is taking place in Miami right now. These three have dismantled their opponents. Bagel, fry, bagel, fry - their opponents are getting little to no chance to get in the match. And what happened to Murray, Roddick, Verdasco, Soderling, Ferrer? These guys are all top contenders, but just like in most every other meaningful tournament in the last 5 years, they disappear and the player standing in the winner's circle is inevitably one of the big three.

I'm going as far as to say that we've never seen such a three man battle before. There was Pete and Andre, Jimmy and John, John and Borg but never really an amazing third player for any previously mentioned duo. Now we have this unbeatable core trio and what makes it even better is that each player has a completely different compelling story line. Djokovic is the young gun who is learning how to use all his weapons and playing at an incredible level. Nadal is the young but seasoned veteran who simply doesn't lose when he's healthy and Federer is the aging champ who isn't willing to concede quite yet.

Oh man, I get goosebumps thinking about the rest of the year. These guys are killing it and we haven't even made it to the clay or grass season! So, even though I've been doting on some of the younger players, the fact of the matter is Nadjokofed is an unstoppable force and there's practically nothing anyone can do about it.
